After the successful privatization and revitalization of unique factory of edible oil BIMAL, Brcko District was selected as the best strategic location to build agro-industrial complex, whose the start of construction was marked by the joint ventures of Austrian company STUDEN Group and AGRANA Group in Greenfield investment STUDEN-AGRANA sugar refinery.

Thus, District of Brcko has become a place of production of basic food products: sugar, oil and flour. Beside the fact that Brcko District has a favourable geographical position, which includes a great road, river and rail traffic, the crucial element for the selection of site for the construction of agro-industrial complex, was the support of local authorities to foreign investors and the presence of the international community.

All these reasons have contributed to the realization of business plans of groups from Austria and their decision to proceed with investments.

It has so far been invested more than 150 million BAM in three manufacturing companies in the area of Brcko District: BIMAL, STUDEN-AGRANA sugar refinery and in ŽITOPROMET in 2010.

Today we can proudly say that this agro-industrial complex has three premium food brands, and that these food products are domestic, manufactured in BiH. The political support of the Brcko District and BiH executive authority bodies during this period greatly facilitated the realization of our plans and we can say with certainty that we are a very positive example of excellent cooperation between the society institutions and international investors”.

Visiting the manufacturing plants of agro-industrial complex, the High Representative, Valentin Inzko, said: "Such examples in practice are the most representative way to represent Bosnia and Herzegovina as a country that is able to attract foreign investors and to turn those investments into successful business ventures.

The combination of modern technology and knowledge of employees is apparently successfully implemented because we have excellent local products, over 600 employees and agro-industrial complex which is still growing and developing".

The President of the STUDEN Group Management, Ilija Studen, said in this connection: "The Western Balkans market, especially Bosnia and Herzegovina has always been very important destination for business plans of STUDEN Group, and we have great interest in the selection of the Brcko District and BiH as a location for ours and our partners’ investments. Regarding the previous decade of our active involvement and work in Brcko District, we can conclude with satisfaction that we have contributed to great progress in the economic development of this country, especially in developing the food industry.
